Defence is a combat skill that reduces the probability of getting hit and the maximum damage taken from enemies. Higher Defence allows you to wear better armor (melee, ranged, and magic) and survive longer in combat!
Introduction
Defence determines how well you protect yourself in combat, what armor you can equip, and how effectively you avoid enemy attacks.
Key Features
- Reduces the probability of being hit by opponents
- Lowers the maximum damage you can take per hit
- Unlocks better armor for all combat styles (melee, ranged, magic)
- Some armor provides offensive bonuses as well
- Trains through combat damage
- Max level: 108
How Defence Works
Hit Probability Reduction
Defence reduces the chance that enemy attacks will hit you:
- Higher Defence = Lower chance of getting hit
- Works against all combat styles (melee, ranged, magic)
- Each point of Defence reduces hit chance
Maximum Damage Reduction
When an attack does land, Defence reduces the maximum damage:
- Higher Defence = Lower maximum damage from opponent
- Makes it harder for opponents to deal max hits
- Stacks with armor bonuses for better protection
Training Defence
Important: XP is earned by dealing damage while using Defensive combat style!
XP Formula: 4 XP per damage dealt (when using Defensive style)
Combat Styles:
- Defensive: Defence XP only
- Accurate/Aggressive: No Defence XP
- Melee: No Defence XP (trains Attack/Strength)
Training Methods
Pure Defence Training
Use Defensive combat style:
- Slower kills (lower damage output)
- Trains Defence only
- Best for tanks and PvP builds
Efficient Training
Many players train Defence alongside Attack/Strength:
- Train Attack/Strength to high levels first
- Switch to Defensive style
- High damage = fast Defence XP
Tip: Upgrading armor should be a priority when looking to increase your combat levels - better armor makes you much more survivable!
Equipment Progression
Defence level unlocks armor tiers for all three combat styles:
Melee Armor
Ranged Armor
Ranged armor provides defence bonuses while allowing freedom of movement:
- Leather Armor (Level 1-30): Light protection, good ranged bonuses
- Hardened Leather (Level 30-50): Better defence, maintains accuracy
- Naga Scale Armor (Level 50+): Excellent magic defence, best for rangers
Magic Armor
Magic armor provides magical defence and offensive bonuses:
- Cloth Robes (Level 1-30): Basic magic defence and bonuses
- Enchanted Robes (Level 30-50): Improved magic attack and defence
- Mystic Robes (Level 50+): Best magic bonuses, excellent magic defence
Note: Some armor pieces provide offensive bonuses as well as defence!
Combat Survivability
Defence Bonuses
Armor provides defence bonuses against different attack types:
- Stab Defence
- Slash Defence
- Crush Defence
- Magic Defence
- Ranged Defence
Higher Defence level + better armor = much better survivability!
PvP Defence
In PvP combat, Defence is crucial:
- Reduces damage from other players
- Allows longer fights and comebacks
- Essential for tanking roles
- Combined with high HP for maximum tankiness
Remember: PvP damage capped at 90, so high Defence + high HP makes you very hard to kill!
Tips & Tricks
- Tip: Train Attack/Strength first, then switch to Defensive for faster Defence training!
- Don't neglect Defence - survival is important
- Higher Defence = less food consumption
- Essential for boss fights and PvP
- Balance Defence with offensive stats
- Upgrade armor regularly - it's a priority for increasing combat effectiveness
