Welcome to the Combat Guide for Legends of Hastinapur! This guide covers the unique combat mechanics, damage formulas, and progression systems of the game.
Combat Basics
Combat is the core of the game. Your effectiveness is determined by your combat skills, equipment bonuses, and prayer usage.
Combat Skills
; Attack
: Determines your hit accuracy (how often you land a hit).
; Strength
: Determines your maximum damage output.
; Defence
: Determines your ability to block or reduce incoming damage.
; Hitpoints
: Represents your life force. If this reaches 0, you die.
; Ranged
: Mastery of bow and arrow combat.
; Magic
: Mastery of Mantra Vidya (spell casting).
Experience System
The base rate for combat training is 4 XP per damage dealt. How that XP is distributed depends on your chosen combat style.
XP Distribution
- Melee (Balanced): 2 Attack XP + 2 Strength XP per damage
- Accurate: 4 Attack XP per damage
- Aggressive: 4 Strength XP per damage
- Defensive: 4 Defence XP per damage
- Ranged: 4 Ranged XP per damage
- Magic: 2 Magic XP + Spell Base XP per damage
Note: You also gain 1.33 Hitpoints XP per damage dealt, regardless of the style used.
Damage Formulas
Below are the formulas used to calculate your damage and accuracy.
Melee Formulas
; Max Hit
: Your maximum possible damage swing.
:Max Hit = (Strength Level + Strength Bonus) / 10
Minimum: 1 damage
: Example: Strength 50 + Weapon bonus 30 = 80.
: Max Hit: 80 / 10 = 8 damage
; Accuracy
: A multiplier applied to your chance to hit.
:Accuracy Multiplier = (Attack Level + Attack Bonus) / 50
Clamped: 0.5x to 2.0x
: Example: Attack 50 + Weapon bonus 30 = 80.
: Accuracy: 80 / 50 = 1.6x (60% better accuracy)
Other Formulas
; Ranged Damage Bonus
: Bonus = Ranged Level / 10
; Magic Damage Bonus
: Bonus = Magic Level / 10
Hitpoints System
{{Important|HP = Your Hitpoints Level exactly!}}
Unlike other games where HP scales differently, in Legends of Hastinapur, your HP pool equals your level number.
- Level 10 HP = 10 Maximum HP
- Level 50 HP = 50 Maximum HP
- Level 108 HP = 108 Maximum HP
Damage Caps
To balance the game, damage is capped differently depending on the target.
{{Warning|Different damage caps exist for PvP and PvE!}}

Prayer is essential for high-level combat. It provides temporary boosts but drains your Prayer Points while active.
- Stat Boosts: Increases Attack, Strength, or Defence by +5% to +15%.
- Restoration: Certain prayers restore HP or Run Energy.
- Protection Prayers: These block incoming damage.
Protection Mechanics
- PvE (Monsters): 100% damage block if the correct prayer is used.
- PvP (Players): 50% damage reduction only.
Food & Healing
You can heal Hitpoints by eating food. Always carry food appropriate for the damage you expect to take.
Combat Strategy
Equipment Progression
- Train Smithing and Mining to create your own gear.
- Upgrade to the next metal tier as soon as you reach the level requirement.
- Always aim for "Best-in-Slot" items for your current level.
Skill Builds
- Balanced Build: Keep Attack, Strength, and Defence equal. Best for new players.
- Pure Build: High Attack/Strength with very low Defence. High damage but very fragile (Glass Cannon).
- Tank Build: High Defence and Hitpoints. Specialized for surviving in PvP.
Boss Fights
- Identify the Boss's attack style and use the corresponding Protection Prayer.
- Fill your inventory with high-healing food (e.g., Cooked Surmai).
- Learn the attack patterns to avoid telegraphed hits.
- Use Prayer Flicking to conserve prayer points during long fights.
PvP Combat
- Master PVP Prayer Switching to reduce incoming damage.
- Bring "Combo Food" and Prayer Elixirs (restores).
- utilize Hybrid Combat (switching between Melee, Ranged, and Magic) to confuse your opponent's defensive prayers.
